NSNP Skilled Worker Nomination Approved in 21 Days After a 17-Month EOI Wait
After roughly 17 months in the NSNP Expression of Interest pool, our client's Nova Scotia Skilled Worker nomination was approved in 21 days — from August 6 to August 27, 2026.
We are pleased to share another successful Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) result: a provincial nomination approved for a client under the NSNP Skilled Worker stream.
The file called for patience, careful monitoring and timely updates. Once the Expression of Interest was selected from the pool and the complete package was submitted, the nomination was issued in just 21 calendar days.
The NSNP timeline
When the applicant retained Balram Immigration, he had already been living and working in Nova Scotia for more than six months. His file progressed as follows:
- February 2025 — Initial NSNP Expression of Interest (EOI) submitted.
- November 2025 — The applicant began working for a different Nova Scotia employer.
- 2026 — We updated the EOI to reflect his new employment and current circumstances.
- Late July 2026 — After roughly 17 months in the EOI pool, the applicant was notified that his submission had been selected for assessment.
- August 6, 2026 — The complete NSNP Skilled Worker application package was submitted.
- August 27, 2026 — The application was approved and the provincial nomination was issued.
In short: roughly 17 months waiting for selection, then 21 days from complete submission to nomination.
Keeping the EOI accurate after a change of employer
A key part of this case was the applicant’s change of employer. Because his employment circumstances changed after the original EOI was created, the profile had to be reviewed and updated.
An EOI should accurately reflect an applicant’s current employment, qualifications and circumstances. Outdated or inconsistent information can create complications once a submission is selected for assessment — and the window to respond is short.
Our team reviewed the new employment situation, updated the client’s information and prepared the documents required at the assessment stage, so the package was ready to go when the selection letter arrived.
Selected before the new $1,000 NSNP fee
On August 6, 2026 — the same day this client’s package was submitted — Nova Scotia announced that NSNP application fees would take effect on September 1, 2026: $1,000 for the worker streams (Skilled Worker, Nova Scotia Graduate and Nova Scotia Express Entry) and $2,000 for the entrepreneur streams.
Under the province’s transition rule, the fee applies only to candidates selected from the EOI pool on or after September 1, 2026; those invited before that date are not subject to it. Because our client was selected in late July, the application was submitted without a provincial application fee.
Candidates selected now should note the deadline: worker-stream applicants must pay the $1,000 fee within seven days of selection. Read the official NSNP fee update.
